Why the rifle called AK-47?

The AK-47 is a Russian rifle designed in 1947 by Mikhail Kalashnikov and the rifle first used in 1949. The full form of AK-47 is Avtomat Kalashnikova 47, Avtomat means "assault rifle" and Kalashnikova refers to its designer, 47 refers to the planned year of production. AK-47, also called Kalashnikov Model 1947, Soviet assault rifle, possibly the most widely used shoulder weapon in the world.
The AK-47 quickly became famous and spread all around the world because it was simple to fire, clean and maintain, and also because of its reliability, meaning that it can be fired for a long time without jamming. It and an updated version called the AKM were used by the Soviet Army. It was later replaced by the AK-74.
